Carl “Bearfoot” Behrend is shown here this past June working on the painting of Michigan’s 78-foot tall Seul Choix Point Lighthouse. Behrend, who is a musician and author, is well known on the Great Lakes for his work on the painting of a number of lighthouses including that state’s Middle Island Lighthouse, Point Iroquois Lighthouse, and the Ile Aux Galets Lighthouse, which is also known as the Skillagalee Lighthouse.
The 1892 Seul Choix Lighthouse Station is managed by the Gulliver Historical Society that was formed in the late 1980s to restore and maintain the light station and open it to the public. It is one of the most popular lighthouses to visit among people visiting Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
